Canton
Charter kids sing
backup for Osmond video
From
the Canton Observer

"It
was neat. I got to shake his hand!"
That was the reaction of Bobbi Radeck, a parent volunteer
at Canton Charter Academy, to an appearance by Merrill Osmond at
the school on Friday, Dec. 14.
Osmond was at the school to film a video and record his
new song, America. The school's 530 children sang along
with Osmond for the recording session.
Osmond, lead singer of the Osmond Brothers, recorded the song to
raise money for the victims' families and those injured in the
Sept. 11 attacks. He chose as his charity the Families
of Freedom Fund sponsored by Bill Clinton and Bob Dole to
raise educational scholarship dollars for the families and
survivors of the attacks.
Judy Tritten, lead secretary at the academy, said while many of
the students at the kindergarten through fifth grade school didn't
know much about the Osmonds the music director had been telling
them about the group.
"The kids liked it," she said. "And a lot of
parents showed up."
Including Radeck, who has two children at the academy.
"They were enthralled," she said.
And was Radeck a fan of the Osmonds? She smiled.
"I was of Donny."
Merrill Osmond was also in town to promote the Wayne
County Community College District, which sponsored the Canton
event.
The Canton Charter Academy is at Ford and Ridge roads.
